My mom really wants to help with baby stuff--awesome! So does Mike--shocking....but also awesome! The -big thing- they are moving to Hawaii at the end of August because Mike is being stationed at Pearl Harbor--darn the luck. My mom insists that the best way for them to help is for me to move to Hawaii with them.
Move to Hawaii? ME?! Wow...uhhh...I don't....know....about that. I mean don't get me wrong - I've always wanted to go to Hawaii! But to visit. Not so sure about LIVING there. (I know what you're thinking, "Girl, you are CRAZY! GO!!")
So I thought about it for a while. No matter which way I try to make it work, staying here by myself without any help (physical, emotional, FINANCIAL, etc) from Ray just isn't feasable. It is possible, yes. But moving to Hawaii would make things a lot less of a struggle. Plus, I'm tired of spending my adult life and holidays without my mommy! Is that lame? I mean, we finally start getting along (my teen years were a little rough on the relationship....and we've had a few snags here and there since then...but we're really coming around!) and she's never here! Until the 4th of July this summer, I hadn't spent a holiday with my mom since Christmas 2004!! It has been really nice having her around the past few weeks.
So I'm gonna do it. I'm moving to Hawaii. Oahu, here I come!! I bought my ticket(s) day before yesterday. I'll be in Utah until September 14th and then I'm outta here! I'm excited and nervous and a million other things....but I'm ready for a new adventure! (I feel like such a nomad though...it's not like I get antsy or bored or anything, but I seem to never stay in one place for very long--and it's not intentional....*shrug*meh)
P.S. I searched for tickets for DAYS to find the best price--and found some pretty decent ones. I just kept wishing that Southwest would fly to Honolulu, but they don't (damn). Then I realized something! Every flight that I found on Expedia (who had the best prices--and, believe me, I checked EVERYONE) had a layover either in Los Angeles or Las Vegas. So I thought "Hmm....I wonder....." and checked the price of a flight with Southwest Airlines to both of those places from Salt Lake and then went to Expedia for flights from both of those to Honolulu. I am awesome. I found a flight from SLC to Vegas for only $49 with Southwest and then Hawaiian Airlines (via Expedia) had a flight from Vegas to HNL for $210. What a steal!! So I got a killer deal on my tickets. I'm pretty proud of my thriftiness...
P.P.S. I am not trying to sound ungrateful in any way or downplay the noble deed that my mom and Mike are doing by offering to help me in Hawaii, but I think a big part of my mom wanting me to move there with them is so she will be able to see Gabriel every day. HA! Not that I blame her, I just think it's cute/funny.
